JOB SUMMARY:

The Import-Export Compliance & Logistics Manager will ensure that the company is in compliance with Government and Corporate regulations and policies relating to international trade. This position is required to review, audit and implement appropriate import and export procedures for shipments, as well as review relevant contracts for required clauses and compliance. This individual will interface with customs brokers, customs (CBP) officers, suppliers, customers, foreign and domestic freight forwarders, 3rd party logistics providers as well as other contacts as necessary to ensure full compliance of our import and export activities. The Import-Export Compliance Manager will also work closely with Global Order Administration, Purchasing, Regulatory, Finance, and Logistics, to ensure that company's international trade policies are updated and that proper training is provided.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for managing all issues related to US Customs regulations (CBP).
  • Interpret and implement the rules and regulations of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Census Bureau and other Government Agencies.
  • Provide accurate foreign trade data information to customs brokers, freight forwarders and other service providers.
  • Provide logistics recommendations and support for Zeiss Global Logistics initiatives.
  • Interface with and provide logistics and trade compliance support to international suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Determine if export licensing is required with various governmental authorizing agencies including Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and Treasury Dept. (OFAC). Apply for export licenses as needed.
  • Provide ECCN (Export Control Classification Number), US HTS (US Harmonized Tariff Schedule) classifications, Schedule B Export Codes.
  • Manage and review and evaluate import and export transactions (contracts, agreements, and orders).
  • Perform denied party screening of customers and intermediate parties to ensure product is not being shipped to individuals or corporations on denied party lists maintained by the U.S. and EU government agencies. This includes sanctions and embargoes.
  • Manage compliant import and export records to support licensing, customer, and transaction screening and classification determinations. Collect appropriate documentation for historical record keeping.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct periodic departmental training and auditing for import/export compliance with various internal departments (Engineering, Senior Sales Managers, Sales/Order Administration, Customer Service, Logistics, Shipping and HR). Provide import/export compliance material and training for new hires.
  • Conduct site audits for both export and import compliance.
  • REQUIREMENTS:
  • BS/BA Degree and minimum 5 years demonstrated work experience in the Global Trade Compliance field or no degree with 10 years experience
  • Customs Brokerage license preferred.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on freight forwarding experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and employees within the company, Carl Zeiss Corporate as well as with US Government officials as required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HTS codes, valuation rules and INCOTERMS.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • At least two (2) years experience working with ERP systems. SAP a plus.
  • Basic computer skills (e-mail, Microsoft Office, internet, etc.).

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
