Import/Export Duty Drawback Specialist - Contractor

The Renesas Electronics America (REA) Inc., Global Trade Compliance (“GTC”) Team supports Renesas businesses in all customs related matters, ensuring full compliance with applicable customs regulations and internal requirements in an optimal and efficient manner. The REA GTC team is looking to hire, on a temporary basis (e.g. contractor), a Duty Drawback Specialist to assist the GTC team in the preparation and processing of duty drawback claims to be submitted to U.S. Customs Broder Protection (“CBP”). The Duty Drawback Specialist will support the REA GTC Team and will be located in Milpitas California.


Work closely with the GTC team to implement REA’s duty drawback program including the following:

  • Responsible for retrieving and analyzing necessary import and export data. This includes: the requirement to pull, review, and update monthly import/export reports ensuring accurate documentation of part, description, quantity, ship-to, harmonized code, country of origin data etc. for each duty drawback claim filed with CBP;
  • Pull and review historic REA Reconciliation files and ensure that all related reconciliations have been included in each duty drawback claim submission, where applicable;
  • Primary contact person (liaison with Duty Drawback Broker) for all issues associated with preparing, filing and liquidation of all duty drawback claims submitted to CBP;
  • Prepare duty drawback claims for submission to REA’s Drawback Broker including:

o Handling of large-scale data management, error resolution, and record retention

o Assist the Duty Drawback Broker in matching (FIFO) imports against exports, determine scope of duty drawback claim for each assigned duty drawback claim period

o Conduct pre-submission internal reviews (mini-audits) of REA’s import and export paperwork to ensure accurate filing of duty drawback claims submitted to CBP

o Verify the monthly REA’s U.S Customs Broker’s report is accurately reflecting Entry Summary CF 7501 data

o Assist with any internal or external audits of duty drawback claims submitted to CBP

o Track duty drawback submissions and anticipated recovery refund amounts received from CBP for each duty drawback claim submitted

  • Support HTSUS tariff classification activities to support REA’s duty drawback program, as necessary; and
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities related to REA’s duty drawback program as may be assigned by GTC.


This position requires:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years hands-on duty drawback experience;
  • Experience in working with U.S. Customs brokers, freight forwarders, warehouse personnel etc.;
  • Strong knowledge of import/export processes and proven practical understanding of U.S. laws and regulations governing imports and exports; including specific knowledge in the field of duty drawback;
  • Evaluation and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to draw conclusions and decisions based on regulatory and business reasoning and ability to dissect import, export transaction data elements and ascertain key data elements required to support each duty drawback claim;
  • Strong knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff System of the United States (“HTSUS”) classifications;
  • Demonstrated commitment with high levels of integrity and professionalism;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to establish priorities is required;
  • Strong PC Skills including Word, SAP, and Excel;
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize requests;
  • Strong attention to detail; and
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the REA GTC team.
