Trade Compliance Program Manager

Job Location: Sunnyvale, CA
Job Profile: Global Logistics


As the Global Trade Compliance Program Manager, you will be responsible for the execution and daily management of Cepheid’s Trade Compliance program to satisfy U.S. and Global Trade Regulations, with a primary focus on the United States. This position will also assist the Global Trade Compliance Manager with Global Import and Export regulatory compliance processes.


  • Interpret the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and advise or lead in the application of the rules into Cepheid’s business operations, including the update of affected Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Lead the execution of the day to day export operations and compliance activities for US export shipments & “deemed exports” to all global locations.
  • Review, research and resolve as needed, all compliance screening results
  • Ensure that company export shipments meet all U.S. Export Laws
  • Assist with the research and identification of Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN), Harmonized Tariff Schedules (HTS), Schedule B numbers, and Export License requirements for Cepheid’s Imports and Exports
  • Assist with preparation, submission and administration of export licenses for the Department of State and Department of Commerce as required.
  • Assist with trade compliance risk assessments and audits
  • Assist with internal reporting & recordkeeping of compliance issues or violations, recommend corrective actions and presentation of data to management
  • Effectively communicate with global, cross functional team members on new projects, procedures and export compliance changes
  • Assist with educating team members on Trade Compliance awareness


Education or Experience (in years):

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2-5 years of experience in a trade compliance role or 5+ years in a trade compliance role

Knowledge and skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the U.S. Export Administration Regulations
  • Comprehensive understanding of Harmonized Tariff Schedules (HTS), Schedule B, Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN) and the application process for obtaining Exporting Licensing
  • Knowledge of C-TPAT programs
  • Overall knowledge of global supply chain operations
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • High ethical standards
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities, organize complex requests, and resolve issues creatively and efficiently
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to coordinate and implement team projects
  • Strong Microsoft PowerPoint, Visio and Excel skills. Advanced Excel skills are preferred
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems

Physical requirements/abilities:

  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs. Work will primarily be in an office environment but will also include working in, or around, a warehouse operation.



  • Previous experience working in an FDA-regulated position/role desired
  • Previous experience with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) preferred
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance rules
