Classification Program Manager

Department: Finance - Tax & Trade
Reports to: Sr. Manager, Global Trade Compliance

Joining Intuitive Surgical means joining a team dedicated to using technology to benefit patients by improving surgical efficacy and decreasing surgical invasiveness, with patient safety as our highest priority.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Day-to-day operational classification support for upcoming shipments
  • Responsible for ensuring resolution of various inquiries and requests from service providers (e.g. Brokers, Freight Forwarders, etc.) and clients, to resolve border crossing issues associated with HTS and ECCN classification
  • Research of Customs and OGA/PGA regulations
  • Trade data (HTS and ECCN) management in ERP system
  • Establish clear and concise communications both internally and externally
  • Draft analysis and memorandums & responsible HTS and CCATS ruling request
  • Audit and assess import compliance with Global Customs regulations
  • Manage and track multiple ongoing projects and project deadlines
  • Validate HTS codes for purchased raw materials and updates ERP system to support Free Trade Agreement (FTA) requirements for qualification of products.
  • Validate ECCN for purchased parts and other products, including updates in ERP system
  • Interact with other functions to identify improvement opportunities regarding regulatory compliance and work process improvements related to HTS and ECCN classifications.
  • Provide training to team members to improve working skills, new working process, etc.
  • Develop Intuitive Surgical product portfolio knowledge and assist to update and create HTS classification logic maps to ensure classification accuracy and consistency
  • Provides global duty costs to facilitate planning and guidance to businesses
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team

SKILLS & JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 10+ years of international trade experience, focusing primarily on customs and trade
  • 5+ years of experience in HTS and ECCN classification and program development
  • Experience interfacing directly with customs and partner government agency authorities on a regular basis, including responding to government inquiries (e.g., CF-28s / CF-29s)
  • Detail oriented and highly organized with ability to multi-task, including a demonstrated ability to drive decision-making in a fast-paced environment with on-demand requests
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver novel and practical solutions to solve complex supply chain / logistics issues
  • Ability to drive complex, cross-functional projects including setting scope, reaching consensus, executing on tasks, and presenting results.
  • Ability to write, speak, and present effectively and persuasively at all levels.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and experience with implementing (or at a minimum utilizing) databases and enterprise resource planning (“ERP”) global trade automation solutions.
  • BA / BS degree or evidence of exceptional ability and/or experience.
  • U.S. Customhouse Broker License strongly preferred
  • Some business travel (~10%) will be required
